Hyatt Amritsar Review – A 5* Hotel in Punjab

Hyatt Amritsar Review

Hyatt Hotel Amritsar

Welcome to my Hyatt Amritsar review. The Hyatt hotel is conveniently located near one of Asia’s longest and oldest roads stretching from Chittagong in Bangladesh to Kabul in Afghanistan through India and Pakistan; Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

The Hyatt Amritsar is located a mere 10 minute drive away from The Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh and the Wagah border (Indian/Pakistan) border is 22 km away.

Check-In

As per my Juhu Beach review, when my taxi arrived the security at the hotel ensured that the car and everything inside it were not carrying any dangerous items. It was a more thorough search than I received in Mumbai and was certainly needed as there had been some recent hostilities on the nearby border between India and Pakistan.

After arriving to the hotel 12 hours later than originally planned due to the incompetence of Jet Airways, check-in was a breeze. They quickly took my passport, my Hyatt Platinum membership card and credit card and dealt with all items immediately, the gentleman checking me in also was kind enough to book me onto the complimentary shuttle for the following night from the hotel to the Golden Temple.

I was given preference on room location and an upgrade in category due to my platinum membership as well as access to the premium Wi-Fi. A nice touch at check-in was being presented with a glass of water and a hotel towel, much needed after the day I had!

Room

The room had a king-sized bed, flat screen, and the usual amenities of mini-bar, kettle, iron, safe. What surprised me was how spacious the room was. The bed was very comfortable so much so, on arrival I avoided going anywhere near it as I had been awake since 4am and it was coming up to 9pm, I wanted to have some food, a shower and relax before heading off to bed. When I finally did ,this insomniac slept well!!

During my few days in Amritsar the mornings and evenings the entire region was covered in a mixture of fog/smog and smoke, this was the view from my hotel window.

Bars/Restaurants

The hotel has two restaurants on-site which are ThaiChi; a Thai-Chinese fusion and Collage serving the finest local Punjabi cuisine as well as other international faire. I unfortunately spent much of my time dining in the small little restaurants around Amritsar dining with locals, therefore didn’t have the opportunity to dine in the restaurants but did manage to order some room service from Collage on my first evening where I opted for a Dal Makhni, Amritsari Fish and a Kulcha naan. The food that I did manage to have was fantastic, bursting with flavours you would expect in Punjabi and certainly what was needed after a long stressful journey. Hyatt Amritsar Review

Breakfast at the hotel was something I was lucky to have had on both mornings, there was a good mix of local Punjabi, Indian and options were are more used to in the western world. The first morning as I was due to visit The Golden Temple, I opted for a selection of pure vegetarian items from the breakfast buffet. My highlights were the Chole Bhature (Chana Masala with a fried bread), Aloo Paratha and buttermilk, of course all washed down with a cup of cutting chai. The second morning, I opted to stick to the local items once again and also enjoyed a Masala Dosa freshly made to order. Hyatt Amritsar Review

The hotel also had a small café serving pastries and desserts as well as a bar.

Other Facilities

The hotel had all the facilities you would expect from a 5-star hotel, the complimentary transport from the hotel to the Golden Temple was fantastic, and both trips during the day were timed with prayers therefore perfect for worshippers as well as tourists like myself looking to visit the site – I’ll be posting on the Golden Temple in the coming weeks alongside other Amritsar sites.

Check Out

Check-out was quick, a run through of the bill and ensuring I was happy with everything on the bill. Earlier that morning I had booked a taxi through the hotel and they ensured it was on time to take me to the Airport for my flight back to Mumbai.

Conclusion

Thanks for taking the time to read  my Hyatt Amritsar review. Once again Hyatt deliver a fantastic product, the hotel was I’d expect from the brand. The staff at breakfast and at the door were attentive and happy to have a chat – and advise of a few places to eat where the locals do. The rate for the hotel during my stay was £80 per night inclusive of all local taxes. Breakfast was an extra £8.

Other than ownership of a Hyatt Platinum membership card I have no affiliation with Hyatt Hotels, Hyatt Amritsar or any associated brands. All thoughts are my own, and those of a paying customer. Hyatt Amritsar Review

Sounds great value (esp. if u are carrying foreign currency) for 5* amenities & service. Food described seems fab & the location is very convenient for all your sightseeing visits.
I assuming gym & pool facilities as a given, being 5*?
